Noah DeJesus is having a strong season for the East Brunswick football team and, unexpectedly, has emerged as a top receiving option.
With his sure hands and athleticism, Noah DeJesus showed enticing potential as a weapon at tight end.
One thing: the East Brunswick football team was thin on the offensive line last year, so DeJesus selflessly shifted to the trenches to help out, while also starting on the defensive line.
Now, with other pieces in place, East Brunswick was able to move the senior to tight end and he has flourished.
DeJesus showcased his skills in the Bears’ 35-26 win over Monroe last week. He caught four passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he forced a fumble, had a sack and had 2 1/2 tackles for a loss.
East Brunswick fans rewarded DeJesus by voting him as the MyCentralJersey.com’s Big Central Conference Readers’ Choice Football Player of the Week. How’s this for the Bears’ supporters showing excitement – he garnered a whopping 27,335 votes or 57 percent of the total cast.
DeJesus has developed a strong connection with junior quarterback Sean Christie. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has 20 catches for 391 yards and four touchdowns, while also playing on the defensive line. He’s compiled 19 tackles (6 1/2 TFL) with two sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery for a score and an interception.
That’s an all-around good season.
"Noah is an incredibly important piece of our football program and someone who embodies what we want this team to represent,” head coach Zack Gega said. “He brings energy, effort, and a competitive spirit every single day. Noah is the type of player who makes everyone around him better — not just because of his talent, but because of his leadership and commitment to doing things the right way.”
And that’s true no matter where he lines up.
“He sets the standard for hard work and accountability, and our younger players look up to him as an example of what it means to be part of this program,” Gega said. “Noah’s presence is felt in everything we do, and our team is better because he is part of it."
