Arne Slot has confirmed that defender Giovanni Leoni will be out for 'around a year' after tearing his ACL.
The young centre-back only joined the Reds this summer, but came off during his debut in their midweek win over Southampton.
And the Dutch tactician has confirmed reports that the teenager has suffered a serious knee injury and he will be replaced in their Champions League squad by Federico Chiesa.
"The last thing is true (Chiesa in CL squad)," Slot said.
"Leoni tore his ACL, so he will be out for around a year. New club, new country, playing so well in your first game, there are no positives, but he is still so young but he has so many years left to come after such a terrible injury."
Slot was also asked to comment on Liverpool's pursuit of Marc Guehi ahead of their game with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
"I don't think one day before we play Palace I should talk about Guehi again, he is a Palace player and very important for them, we prepare for Palace, not lost for 17 games in a row, so difficult team to beat but so are we."
Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park tomorrow looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League.
