Hummer (Alabama +3): If you can ignore Alabama’s Week 1 effort, there’s a strong argument the Tide should be favored in this game. Georgia’s defensive front isn’t what it’s been in recent years — 79th in pressure rate — and the secondary was carved up against Tennessee. That’s advantage Alabama given what the passing offense has looked like the last three weeks. But that Week 1 game against FSU did happen, and I still have a huge hesitancy about what Bama’s O-line and pass game look like against similar competition. I think this is a true tossup game. But given that UGA is at home and has a passing offense I trust a tad more, I’ll go with the Bulldogs to win. … Georgia 28, Alabama 27.
Crawford (Georgia -3): Are we going to see the Alabama that steamrolled its last two opponents or the Crimson Tide team that paled in comparison from a physicality standpoint at Florida State? The likely answer is somewhere in between the two. Georgia’s lucky to be unbeaten right now given how much its defense was torched at Tennessee. Ty Simpson‘s been terrific at quarterback for the Crimson Tide and he’s going to make plays. The question is, how many? In one of the best games of the weekend, Georgia holds on at home. … Georgia 31, Alabama 27.
Will the Bulldogs beat the Crimson Tide in the regular season for the first time since 2007? Alabama has won nine of the last 10 meetings. The quarterback matchup between Gunner Stockton and Ty Simpson is about efficiency. Who makes the plays in the red zone? Simpson leads the SEC with a 186.6 passer rating. What will Georgia do to disrupt that? The Bulldogs will look to protect their 33-game home winning streak at Sanford Stadium.
Pick: Georgia wins 28-24 and COVERS the spread.
Alabama at Georgia (-2.5): Wisconsin may have its worst team since the early days of Barry Alvarez trying to change the culture. And by early days, I mean the early 1990s. If that fool’s gold (or La-La Monroe) makes you feel good about Alabama in Athens, you may want to rethink it.
Alabama’s only loss of the year in 2025 was on the road to Florida State. In that game, Alabama was a 13.5-point favorite and lost by 14. Alabama lost three times in the first regular season under Kalen DeBoer, all three of them being on the road. Under DeBoer, Alabama is just 2-4 on the road. Since joining the FBS ranks as a coach, DeBoer has lost just 12 games in six seasons during the regular season. Of those 12 games, 10 of them came on the road.
Meanwhile, Georgia has won 33 straight games at home. The last time Georgia fell at home was October 12, 2019, when the team lost in double overtime to South Carolina.
Georgia has dominated at home in recent years, while Alabama has struggled on the road. That is going to continue in this one, as Georgia gets the win on Saturday.
Alabama’s Ryan Williams won’t go off for 177 yards like he did in last year’s game, but the offense will be more explosive than Georgia’s.
Simpson will be terrific. He’ll throw for a ton of yards, and again, the DeBoer offensive style will look the part.
And then the Bama D will let down the O on two late Bulldog scoring drives.Georgia won’t exactly be methodical, but it’ll be relentless. It’ll be a bit more balanced, Stockton will do a better job of keeping the chains moving, and yes, this will be another great game between these two.
Alabama, which is 2-1 so far this season with a loss to Florida State, is looking to make it three wins in a row against the Bulldogs.
Georgia, meanwhile, is looking to avenge last season’s surprising loss to the Crimson Tide and move to 4-0 on the season.
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde made his score prediction this week for Alabama vs Georgia and he doesn’t have the Bulldogs avenging their loss.
Forde predicts that Alabama will beat Georgia 30 to 27.
“The best current coach in college football (Smart) has fainting spells against the Crimson Tide—he’s 107–13 against the rest of college football and 1–6 against Bama,” wrote Forde. “What used to be a Nick Saban hang-up transferred to Kalen DeBoer last year.”
Georgia 34, Alabama 27. The winning team in this matchup has scored at least 33 points in five of the last six games. Alabama’s last two visits to Athens in 2015 (38-10) and 2008 (41-30) were nightmare games for Georgia. This one won’t be. The Bulldogs’ run game will complement its passing game and the Bulldogs’ defense will get just enough stops to pull this one out.
That last one is from the Athens Banner-Herald. We can obviously never know what will happen in a game, especially one that is as seemingly evenly matched as this one. Both of these QBs have put up strong numbers in recent weeks, but neither has done it against an elite pass defense. Alabama’s passing game has looked smoother that Georgia’s in the last couple of weeks. and you have to like Alabama’s veteran talent on defense.
But, then you have Road Bama. Until the team is able to make a statement to the contrary, they are going to be branded as a poor road squad. They have undoubtedly heard all of this. Will this be the game that they put it all together and knock off a quality team?
This is admittedly a homer take, but I’m buying Ty Simpson and Alabama’s receivers more than the Georgia counterparts. I think Alabama’s secondary is better, and the combo of LT Overton and Qua Russaw will be able to exploit a banged up offensive line. The return of Tim Keenan III will be huge for the defense. and Jam Miller will be running with a passion on fresh legs. It feels like the intangibles are in the Tide’s favor, as long as they don’t let the raucous crowd affect them.
Let’s go Alabama 31, Georgia 24. Of course, that is merely my opinion. Vote and give us yours in the comments.
Last, our own Roger Myers is even more famous.
“When Saban was here, it felt like something miraculous had to happen for us to lose,” he says. “It doesn’t feel that way now.”
Myers tries to keep things in perspective. He takes the long view. He remembers sitting in his bedroom as a child, listening to Bear Bryant’s Tide on the radio. “They painted the picture for you,” he says of the announcers of his youth. He remembers one night in 1971, when he was 11, listening to the Tide play at Southern Cal and hearing the shock in the announcers’ voices when Bryant brought out the wishbone formation for the first time, which Bama had installed in secret during the buildup to that game. “It was so exciting,” he says. “They had to describe the formation for you on the radio, and you could just see it in your mind.”
College football will never have another dynasty like Saban’s, but hopefully DeBoer can find some level of consistency. Alabama should be in contention most seasons.
That’s about it for today. Have a great weekend.
Roll Tide.
