Beppe Marotta does not believe in the potential ‘dark side’ behind a sale of San Siro to the clubs Inter and Milan, and insists that Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital are operating with ‘maximum transparency’ as the city council deliberates over its decision.
Marotta hopes for San Siro sale: ‘Operating with maximum transparency’
Inter and Milan have an ‘agreement’ to purchase the San Siro site, including the beloved Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, pending approval from the city council. If approved, the clubs will look to completely renovate the ground, which is not currently up to standard for the EURO 2032, co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.
The Milan city council met to discuss the details of a proposed sale of San Siro to Milan and Inter on Thursday, and will hold a decisive vote on the matter on Monday. Reports on Thursday claimed that the city councillors are currently split evenly in their voting intentions, which means that a decision could still go either way.

Part of the argument against the proposed sale of San Siro is that Milan and Inter are both currently owned by US-based investment firms. There are some concerns that those firms could look to sell the San Siro site, which sits on valuable city land, on to a third party in the future.
Marotta believes these concerns are not worth worrying about, however.
“Over the last few days, serious statements have been made hinting at the ‘dark side’ of investors, who, however, are operating with maximum transparency,” Marotta said on Thursday after receiving an honorary degree from the Universita degli Studi di Milano Bicocca.
“We’ve made ourselves available for a discussion, because nobody wants to violate any state laws,” he continued.

Despite some initial concerns over Oaktree’s ownership of Inter, Marotta insists that the investment firm has provided plenty of funds to help the Nerazzurri kick on.
“Oaktree is a forward-looking fund, which has understood that investment in facilities is a requirement. And when I say facilities, I’m not just talking about the stadium. Those that we already own, too.
“More than 100 million has been set aside for Appiano Gentile and Interello. The fund has also made investments for the acquisition of players, so their backing is welcomed.”
