Commanders' Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin receive alarming injury update ahead of Falcons game

The dynamic 1-2 punch for the Washington Commanders just received some not great news for Sunday's game in Atlanta.

The Washington Commanders are coming off a dominant performance in which they absolutely torched the Las Vegas Raiders. But as they head into this week, several questions remain — particularly about the status of quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin’s injury appears as though it could sideline him for a significant period.

“Commanders WR Terry McLaurin’s quad injury will not require surgery after McLaurin sought multiple medical opinions this week. Still not looking good for Sunday vs. the Falcons but at least no surgery at this point,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo posted.

Daniels’ situation has been more uncertain, with little clarity provided throughout the week. He is still recovering from a knee injury suffered in Week 2. While the Commanders didn’t seem to miss him against the Raiders, the Falcons — who gave up 30 points last week — are expected to bring pressure.

“Daniels, who is dealing with a knee sprain, returned to practice in limited fashion on Wednesday and spoke with reporters, offering little clarity on whether he'll play in Washington's Week 4 game at the Atlanta Falcons,” NFL,com’s Nick Shook wrote.

On Friday, the team gave its final injury update before traveling to Atlanta — and it wasn’t encouraging. Both Daniels and McLaurin were absent from practice.

“Neither Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (knee), nor WR Terry McLaurin (quad) is not on the field for the start of practice… Not good signs for either,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport wrote.

With both players trending toward being unavailable, Marcus Mariota and Deebo Samuel are expected to step into lead roles for the weekend. Mariota, a former Falcons starter, will surely have some extra motivation returning to Atlanta.

As for the Commanders overall, the focus will be on holding things together until their key duo can return. If the Falcons play as sloppily as they did last weekend, Washington should have a strong chance to come out with the win.
