Cody Rhodes is saved by a friend after asking some questions about Brock Lesnar.
Tonight’s (Sept. 26) episode of SmackDown kicked off with Paul Heyman going at it on the mic with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
It’s natural to assume Heyman was only there to speak on behalf of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, who Rhodes is set to fight on October 11 at Crown Jewel in Australia. However, Rhodes had a different Heyman client in mind when he asked Paul if he was actually talking to Brock Lesnar’s advocate.
Heyman wouldn’t admit he’s back full-time working with Brock, and instead said Rhodes was speaking to the GOAT. It didn’t take long before the trap was set, and Rhodes was surrounded by Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Cody was not intimidated, and in fact decided to throw the first punch despite the numbers game being against him.
Just as things were looking bleak for the champ, Randy Orton’s music hit, and out came The Viper to help Rhodes run off The Vision.
It seems that Cody will need to have eyes in the back of his head with Seth Rollins’ goons lurking in the shadows over the next couple of weeks, but the longer term tease here was for another program between Rhodes and Lesnar.
