Game Thread: TCU Football at Arizona State Sun Devils

TCU opens its Big 12 slate on the road vs. defending league champions

The TCU Horned Frogs (3-0; 0-0 Big 12) will be under the Friday night lights in Tempe, AZ to open its conference schedule vs. the defending league champions Arizona State Sun Devils (3-1; 1-0 Big 12). It’s the first contest between the two programs in 50 years.

Arizona State entered the season as one of the conference favorites, returning star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson and QB Sam Leavitt. The duo has performed up to the lofty preseason expectations with Tyson leading the conference in receiving yardage while Leavitt has accounted for 967 total yards and 10 touchdowns. The Sun Devils look to replace Cam Skattebo in the aggregate, bringing in Kanye Udoh from Army to pair with Kyson Brown and Raleek Brown in the backfield to put ASU second in the conference in total rush yards. Arizona State was already able to get a win in conference play, going to Waco and making a walk-off field goal to defeat Baylor.

The teams happen to be the two most accommodating defenses in the Big 12 to opposing passing attacks, ranking at the bottom of the league at over 235 pass yards allowed per game, so expect some fireworks in the desert tonight.

For the Horned Frogs, it’ll be Josh Hoover and a deep rotation of pass catchers looking to take advantage of the opportunities through the air. Hoover is the current NCAA leader in yards per game, having thrown for exactly 1,000 yards through three contests, with 11 TDs and a pair of interceptions. The Horned Frogs have had a different receiver reach the century mark in each of its first three games, with Eric McAlister delivering an all-time elite performance last week in the win over SMU, exploding for 8 catches for 254 yards and 3 TDs. TCU will again be without leading rusher Kevorian Barnes, leaning instead on the committee of Jeremy Payne, Trent Battle, Nate Palmer, and Jon Denman out of the backfield.
