Colorado Buffaloes receiver Drelon Miller will be getting reps out of the team's backfield on Saturday night against the BYU Cougars.

Colorado Buffaloes receiver Drelon Miller could be the next man up in the injured running back room ahead of the team’s matchup with the No. 25 BYU Cougars on Saturday night under the lights at Folsom Field.
With Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk’s group missing DeKalon Taylor and Simeon Price, Miller may be in line for snaps behind Dallan Hayden and Micah Welch in a pivotal matchup for the 2-2 Buffs.
The Denver Gazette’s Tyler King reports that the “worst-kept secret in Boulder” is that Miller will work out of the backfield Saturday night to jumpstart a campaign in which he’s only accumulated eight catches and 62 yards.
“It’s the worst-kept secret in Boulder this week, but expect Dre’lon Miller to work out of the backfield Saturday night. With the Buffs down their top two running backs, seniors DeKalon Taylor and Simeon Price, they’re left with just Dallan Hayden and Micah Welch at the position. But Miller views himself in the mold of a Deebo Samuel that can line up both at wide receiver and at running back, doing so at times last season. It might be a good way to jump-start the sophomore from Texas who has struggled with drops through the first few games and hasn’t been the offensive weapon CU expected coming into the year,” King wrote.
Colorado has stability at QB, for now, with Kaidon Salter
Colorado is coming off a 37-20 win over the Wyoming Cowboys last Saturday, the team’s second non-conference win of the season. The other was a 31-7 triumph over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens in Week 2. Against Power 4 opponents this season, the Buffs are 0-2. They lost by a touchdown to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 1 and by 16 to the Houston Cougars in Week 3.
The Georgia Tech loss saw Kaidon Salter under center, while Ryan Staub started against Houston. Salter will be back as QB1 against BYU. Assuming nothing goes awry, Salter will stay that way.
“The quarterback carousel is over. Barring an injury or a major setback in terms of performance, Salter is the Buffs’ starting quarterback, and his performance last week (over 300 passing yards and 4 total touchdowns) against Wyoming showed why CU went and got him in the transfer portal. Now it’s about backing that up and validating the belief among the Buffs that it wasn’t just because they were playing a lesser opponent. How Salter looks this week will go a long way toward determining CU’s ceiling as a team this fall,” King wrote.
Stability at the most important position on the field is always a good start to a winning program.
Getting creative with skill-position players to maximize the offense is a good way to win when injuries ravage the depth chart.
We’ll see how Coach Prime’s decisions play out on Saturday night.
