Wake up, ‘Dawgs. It’s Saturday in Athens!
You’ve only got fourteen hours until kickoff. That’s barely enough time for you to figure out how to get consistent pressure on Ty Simpson and relay that strategy to Kirby, so we’re going to make this brief. Here’s what’s making news in Bulldog Nation this morning:
Are you hyped for the game? If not, allow Bulldog legend Bill Goldberg to help you get your mind right:
You probably saw the informative question and answer session with Brent Taylor of Roll Bama Roll in this space yesterday, but I also took a guest turn over at the Bama site to talk about the game. Bottom line, No fanbase that really, truly hates Auburn can be all bad.
Alabama is getting talented defensive tackle Tim Keenan back, however Georgia is not as lucky, as veteran right tackle Ernest Greene, III remains hobbled by a nagging back injury and has been ruled out for tonight. Redshirt sophomore Bo Hughley played well in that spot late in the Tennessee game after redshirt freshman Michael Uini struggled with the Vols’ pass rush. If the staff feels good about how Dontrell Glover looks at right guard they could also slide fellow freshman Juan Gaston out to tackle in Greene’s stead.
How do I feel that we’re throwing around the names of true freshmen to cover an entire side of the offensive line headed into a matchup with the Crimson Tide? About as nauseous as you’d expect, perhaps more. It’s not ideal, and the fact that Coach Searels doesn’t have better, more tested options is a testament both to the transfer portal era and (in this Dawg’s opinion) his own inconsistent record of player development. But if the Red and Black run for 200+ in a dominating win over the Tide I’m willing to take all of that back.
Away from the gridiron, Georgia announced contract extensions for basketball coach Mike White and a handful of other coaches on Friday. White’s new deal runs three seasons longer than his prior one, lasting through 2031 and follows the Bulldogs’ first March Madness appearance in a decade. Honestly, I could see this extension looking like a bit of an albatross if the Red and Black take a step back in 2026 or 2027. But it’s how the game is played in college basketball these days. If you don’t have at least five seasons left on your deal at all times you’re as good as on the hot seat for recruiting purposes.
