It has been a season to forget for the LA Galaxy, with the MLS Cup holders languishing at the bottom of the league in 2025.
But for just one moment tonight, there is something to smile about at Dignity Health Sports Park during a first-half goal fest against visiting Sporting Kansas City.
Though returning former Galaxy star Dejan Jovelić got himself on the scoresheet for Sporting, tonight undoubtedly belongs to current club ace Joseph Paintsil.
A key cog in the wheel for Greg Vanney, the Ghanaian international and former KRC Genk ace has enjoyed a night of firsts this evening, bagging a hat-trick in the opening 45 minutes.
In doing so, Paintsil becomes just the third Galaxy player to ever bank three goals in the opening half of action in club history.
By scoring three goals in the first half tonight, Joseph Paintsil became the third player in @LAGalaxy history to produce a first half hat trick, joining Robbie Keane (May 26, 2013) and Alejandro Moreno (May 19, 2004). pic.twitter.com/SNB4eO0aZz

Paintsil joins the shortlist that also includes MLS and Ireland legend Robbie Keane, and former striker and current league analyst, Alejandro Moreno.
