Oregon head coach Dan Lanning could hardly hide his excitement after his team survived a double-overtime thriller at Beaver Stadium. The No. 6 Ducks squandered a 17-3 advantage but ultimately pulled out a 30-24 victory over No. 3 Penn State on Saturday night.
The game’s turning point came in the second extra period when freshman safety Dillon Thieneman intercepted Drew Allar, sealing Oregon’s unbeaten start.
Lanning reserved his strongest praise for quarterback Dante Moore, who threw three touchdowns and kept his composure in front of the second-largest crowd in stadium history.

The matchup lived up to its hype as a top-10 showdown. Both teams struggled early, with only field goals on the board at halftime, tied 3-3.
Moore found Dierre Hill Jr. for an 8-yard score in the third quarter, then Jordon Davison pushed Oregon ahead 17-3 with a short run early in the fourth. Penn State roared back with two quick touchdowns, forcing overtime.
The Nittany Lions struck first in the opening extra session, but Moore immediately answered with a 2-yard pass to Jamari Johnson. On the first play of the second overtime, Moore hit Gary Bryant Jr. for a 25-yard touchdown before Thieneman’s interception ended the contest.
Moore finished 29 of 39 for 248 yards with three scores, outdueling Allar in front of a raucous White Out environment.
“I think we have the best quarterback in college football,” Lanning said. “Anybody watch that game? That guy’s composure, his poise… tells you a little bit about that guy.”

Lanning also praised his team for withstanding the crowd.
“This is a huge one for our entire team, right? Because that crowd’s probably worth seven points, right? And they really weren’t tonight.”
Oregon moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play. Penn State dropped 3-1 and 1-1 in the league. Next, the Ducks get a bye before facing unbeaten Indiana in another possible top-10 clash
