Deion Sanders’ postgame press conference after Colorado’s 24–21 defeat to BYU balanced frustration with urgency as he called for better execution.
“Sometimes when it seems like you had more talent, but you didn’t quite win the game, it makes it feel somewhat awkward,” Sanders said. “We had opportunities, tremendous amount of opportunities, but nevertheless, we didn’t cash in on it. And sometimes it felt like the moment was just too big for some of our athletes and they got to do something about that.”
One bright spot was the emergence of freshman Dre’lon Miller. “That wasn’t a play-play. That was real-real,” Sanders said. “That’s what he is going to do for us from here on. That’s who he is. We’ve identified what he is…and we’re going to use him as much as we can and even more.”

On quarterback Kaidon Salter, Sanders praised his ability to extend plays but also pushed for more discipline. “He did some wonderful things. He did some wonderful things,” Sanders said. “But you got to do a better job of getting rid of the ball. Just get rid of the ball. Let us get back to the line of scrimmage.”
In the end, Sanders said it came down to preparation and consistency. “Everything I saw today, I saw at practice,” he said. “Practice is your prerequisite. Rarely have I seen men in all levels practice bad and go out there and dominate in the game…We got to do a much better job of preparing these young men to do their jobs in front of the multitudes.”
