2010-born youth player currently training with Bayern Munich first team

The age standard for top flight football is scary now

Bayern Munich has a strong legacy of prioritizing their youth players and developing their skills from an early age, a legacy that most coaches support. A report coming out of Säbener Straße says that Vincent Kompany recently gave a youth player at Bayern the opportunity to train with the first team, a major achievement for any player trying to make their way to the top.

The report, captured by @iMiaSanMia, mentions Filip Pavić, a 15-year-old center-back that currently plays for Bayern’s Under-17 team, as well as captains Germany’s Under-16 team. Following Kim Min-jae’s recent injury, Kompany decided to let the young German train with the first team, perhaps as a measure of caution. Fans are speculating whether he could be a potential replacement for Min-jae, or even Josip Stanišić, who recently injured himself too.

However, according to a DFL rule established in 2020, the minimum age for any player to appear in a Bundesliga game was reduced from 17 to 16 years. Pavić will not be able to meet the limit at the time of kick-off, despite the lowered limit (Authors Note: rightfully so…Thomas Müller made a name for himself at the World Cup when this kid would’ve been a new-born).
