Taylen Kinney played three seasons at Newport High School before joining Overtime Elite in August 2024. On Sept. 28, he committed to play at Kansas.
Former Newport High School basketball star Taylen Kinney announced on Sunday, Sept. 28, that he will play college basketball at the University of Kansas.
He chose the Kansas from a final six that included Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville and Oregon. At the height of his recruitment, Kinney had 42 Division I offers. He is currently rated as the No. 1 point guard in the country by 247sports and No. 13 player overall in the Class of 2026.
Kinney scored 1,220 points in three varsity seasons for the Wildcats, leading them to Ninth Region titles in 2023 and 2024, before making the switch to Atlanta-based Overtime Elite in August 2024.
Since joining Overtime Elite, Kinney has gained a national following. His biggest influence is the "6-7" trend, a phrase he started saying after taking a liking to Skrilla's song "Doot Doot". He has become known as "Mr. 67" and launched a purified water brand. He also used his OTE contract money to buy his mom, Mikelle Gearding, a new car.
