Eli Manning: NY Giants “would welcome” Bayern Munich star Harry Kane as new kicker

The England captain has a pro-(footballing career) after try in mind.

Bayern Munich star striker and England men’s national team captain Harry Kane is sounding pretty serious about giving it the ol’ National Football League try one day.

Kane’s sweet striking ability, particularly in the pressure situation of a penalty kick, is drawing hopes that he can translate those skills from round balls to oblong ovals. Recently, he admitted an NFL future is still ‘back of mind’ — and one American star would welcome him.

That would be Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning, who was quoted in German outlet Sport Bild as saying of Kane’s potential: “Of course he could. The New York Giants would welcome Harry Kane as their new kicker anytime.”

Manning’s former team is having a situation at the placekicker position this week. Scottish-born Graham Gano is out injured and the Giants are scrambling to decide on a replacement. That’s not going to be enough time for Kane, quoted in the Bild story as still hoping for “many, many years ahead” as a footballer, of the European variety.

Still, Kane also added: “Making it to the highest level in two different sports – soccer and football – would be something very special.”

Could Kane swap PKs for PK (America’s version)? At this point, don’t count it out.
