Women’s Volleyball: No. 9 TCU falls to No. 20 Baylor in five-set thriller

The Horned Frogs suffered their first Big 12 loss of the season.

Taking the road for the first time in Big 12 Conference play this season. No. 9 TCU went five sets with No. 20 Baylor, where former longtime coach Jason Williams made his name before coming to Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs and Bears went five sets, with Baylor emerging victorious and hanging TCU a 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 9-15 defeat.

It’s the first Big 12 loss of the season for the Horned Frogs (11-3, 1-1 Big 12), who were held to a .167 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Sarah Sylvester made history for TCU, recording her 400th career block and passing both Regan McGuire and Natalie Gower for third on the program’s all-time career blocks list. The Horned Frogs will return to action against Kansas on Wednesday.

Evan Hendrix posted a huge double-double from the outside, registering a team-high 25 kills on a .270 hitting clip while adding 17 digs on the defensive end of the floor. TCU hit .355 in the first set, but the Horned Frog offense found holes difficult to find against a tough Baylor front wall. Becca Kelley recorded 14 kills on a .273 hitting rate from the outside, while Sylvester and Alexis Roberson combined for 11 kills and seven blocks from the middle position.

Alice Volpe anchored the back-row defense with 16 digs, while setters Rosemary Archer (22 assists) and Ella Foti (20 assists) paced the TCU offense on Saturday. Lauren Murphy led the Horned Frogs from the service line, compiling a team-best four aces against the Bears.
