The 2025 Ryder Cup concluded an undeniably action-packed Sunday of sports in New York.
Taking place at Bethpage Black on Long Island, Team Europe had an unquestionably large lead that was too much for Team USA to win the Ryder Cup. Despite a strong Sunday finish in singles from the U.S., the Europeans won 15-13.
Here are 10 winners and losers from the Ryder Cup, including a match summary from all three days.
Winner: Team Europe, Ryder Cup Champions
Overall, Team Europe was too much for the Americans, leading 11.5-4.5 going into Sunday singles. Their chemistry in foursomes and four-ball was clicking on all cylinders and undoubtedly too much for the Americans. As a result, Team Europe became the first team to win a Ryder Cup away from home since 2012. One of the keys was especially their putting. Eight of the top nine golfers in strokes gained putting came from Europe with Justin Rose and Sepp Straka leading the way with more than three strokes each.
Loser: Scottie Scheffler
In team play, Scottie Scheffler lost all four of his matches. As a result, he became the first player since 1967 to start 0-4 through the first four Ryder Cup sessions. The World No. 1 ranked golfer lost 1.55 strokes around the ground and only gained 0.12 strokes while putting. His play around the green played a big difference in not being able to set the stage the first two days. Luckily, he was able to avoid an 0-5 with a 1 up win over Rory McIlroy in a battle of the planet’s top two golfers.
Winner: Tommy Fleetwood
The reigning FedEx Cup Champion remained hot. Tommy Fleetwood won all four of his team matches, including leading all 24 golfers in strokes gained total, tee to green and approach over the first two days. At one point Saturday, he had four points, which was more than Team USA had altogether (3.5). Fleetwood was making putts as he was part of a Team Europe force that gained 7.70 strokes with the putter, according to Data Golf.

Winner: Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup Decision-making
A captain can only do so much, but can play a valuable role as a leader. For Team Europe, captain Luke Donald ensured that. His smartest decision was keeping the same four pairings in the morning foursomes on both days, in which Team Europe won each session 3-1.
Winner: Justin Rose
At 45 years old, Justin Rose is proving that he can still compete against the best, winning both of his four-ball matches. His putter played a key role in his win on Saturday with Fleetwood. Rose gained 3.01 strokes in the match as they combined to make 12 birdies in 15 holes in their 3 and 2 win. Overall, Rose went 2-1 in his three matches to highlight a successful Ryder Cup.
Winner: Cameron Young, Ryder Cup rookie
The native New Yorker delivered for Team USA, being one of only two players to earn three points. Furthermore, Young ranked third in strokes gained tee to green and fourth in total strokes gained among all 24 golfers. Above all, his singles victory against Rose on the 18th hole was highlighted by making a clutch 11-foot putt to win the match and keep the Americans in contention of pulling off a comeback. In addition, Young delivered right from the start with a 6 and 5 win with Justin Thomas in the Friday afternoon four-ball session. He emphatically won three of the final five holes with his ball to clinch the point for the U.S.
Loser: Ryder Cup fans
For the most part, the Ryder Cup fans in attendance were supporting their teams. However, especially on Saturday, tensions rose higher than that, leading to New York State Police having to stand in and protect the players on the course. In addition, at one point on Saturday, a drink sailed by McIlroy and his wife, Erica.
Winner: Shane Lowry
Getting to get the winning point, or half point in a team event, such as the Ryder Cup is always special. For Team Europe, that was Shane Lowry, who made a six-footer birdie putt to tie his match against Russell Henley and at last win the Ryder Cup after a grueling match that saw Henley take a 2-up lead through 14. Overall, Lowry scored two points for his team with a victory and two ties.
Losers: Collin Morikawa and Harris English
The Collin Morikawa and Harris English pairing was a question mark once Bradley announced the pick for foursomes for both Friday and Saturday. As a result, the pairing lost 5- 4 on Friday and 3- 2 on Saturday to McIlroy and Fleetwood in both sessions. Although that sounded like a good pairing to captain Keegan Bradley, data golf ranked the Morikawa and English pairing 132nd out of 132 optimal foursome pairings for Team USA. As a result, it meant that it was the worst pick possible Bradley and his team could select.
Winner: Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele entered the Ryder Cup with undeniable high expectations despite having questions for Team USA. Firstly, he did not compete in the Tour Championship for the first time in his career. Then, he did not compete in Team USA’s tuneup event. However, the fourth-ranked player in the world delivered, earning three points, along with Young. In spite of those questions, Schauffele took down Jon Rahm in both Saturday Four-balls and Sunday Singles ,winning 4 & 3. His singles match was significantly fueled by gaining more than three strokes in his approach and on the tee to green.
