Today on Pinstripe Alley – 9/29/25

A brief respite before the fun begins.

The regular season is over, and what a strange and beautiful marathon it was. This Yankees team showed the ability to dominate, as well as the ability to play absolutely baffling baseball. In all, they ended up with the best record in the American League, but their failure to play their best against the Blue Jays gave Toronto the tiebreaker and the division. As disappointing as it was to see the Yankees’ outstanding finish to the season go for naught, there’s no time to lick wounds, with the Red Sox coming to town tomorrow night. It’s a grudge match, a quick best-of-three series that will determine which of these archrivals will survive to the longer rounds of the AL playoffs.

With the postseason upon us, we’ll use this day off to get previewed on what’s to come. We’ll have team previews coming your way, with Jeff breaking down the Padres and Maximo looking at the Guardians. I’ll also look back at the final day of the regular season with the Rivalry Roundup, while John goes way back, writing the next entry in the 2000 Yankees diary. Later, Madison will detail the Reds, while Peter will issue this month’s GM poll.

Today’s Matchup:

Off-day.

Questions/Prompts:

1. Do the Yankees have the best overall roster in the AL playoff field?

2. What non-Yankees playoff series are you most looking forward to in the first round?
