Bayern mean business in CL trip to holiday island of Cyprus

Bayern Munich are not on a holiday trip when they travel to Cyprus but rather want to continue their perfect start into the Champions League and all competitions at underdogs Pafos on Tuesday. Bayern have won all of their first eight matches of the campaign which includes a 3-1 over Club World Cup winners Chelsea in their Champions League opener.

"It is important that we continue the good start against Pafos after winning our home game against Chelsea," captain Manuel Neuer said.

Midfielder Leon Goretzka also insisted that "we are not going there because of the weather."

Bayern are the big favourites but will not underestimate debutants Pafos, who eliminated the likes of ex-champions Red Star Belgrade in the qualifying rounds and started the league phase with a credible 0-0 draw in Athens at Olympiakos.

Pafos' squad includes veteran Brazilian defender David Luiz, who was part of the Chelsea team that beat Bayern in the 2012 final.

Bayern want to do better than last season when they lost three of their matches away from home in the first stage.

Midfielder Joshua Kimmich said that "we will therefore be alert and focused" in the small 10,700-seat Limassol stadium where Pafos play their home games.

Star striker Harry Kane is happy about the late evening kick-off at 10 pm (1900 GM) given the warm temperatures, as he aims to add to his tally after becoming the fastest player to reach 100 goals for one club in Europe's top five leagues in Friday's 4-0 Bundesliga win.

Making it nine wins out of nine will also further boost confidence for their next Bundesliga tasks, a tricky date at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, and then a meeting with second-placed Borussia Dortmund on October 18 after the international break.

Board member for sport Max Eberl welcomes the break, saying: "‘We're going to push through this week. We're travelling to Cyprus – and then we have a very important, complicated away game in Frankfurt."
