Olympique de Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi was today asked about the difficulties of record signing Igor Paixao (25), who is yet to impress at his very best after moving to the club from Feyenoord in the summer months. At a press conference attended by Get French Football News, the Italian defended his Brazilian winger, taking issue with the question posed by local media. “I really don’t like this question, because he’s been injured for two months and is not yet in optimal condition,” said De Zerbi at the Stade Vélodrome on Monday afternoon. “He’s strong, he’s already shown that in the Champions League. But he’s not 100%, which is normal because it’s only been two months since he got injured.”Matt O’Riley was also present at the press conference, and equally defended his teammate, adding “He has a lot of qualities. He can make the difference in a match, he’s very talented. He’s also a great guy off the pitch, as well as being humble. We’re happy to have him with us.”Les Olympiens face their second UEFA Champions League test on Tuesday night against Dutch giants Ajax, who De Zerbi has already beaten twice as manager of Brighton in the UEFA Europa league during the 2023-2024 season.GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from the Stade Vélodrome, Marseille.
