Shohei Ohtani records & league-leading stats from 2025

Ohtani set Dodgers records for home runs and runs scored, and led the league in various categories this season

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani reintroduced pitching back to his repertoire in his second season with Los Angeles, gradually working his way back to full two-way status. His pitching was very effective, with a 2.87 ERA and 2.45 xERA with 62 strikeouts against only nine walks in 47 innings.

That pitching should help the Dodgers this October, especially since now Ohtani has been stretched out to six innings. But here we will focus mostly on his offensive prowess in 2025, the many records he set, the categories he led the league in, and other milestones.

Ohtani’s 55 home runs broke his own Dodgers record, one more than he hit last season in his first year with the team. He also had the first season in MLB history with exactly 55 home runs.

He was just the sixth player to hit 50 home runs in consecutive seasons, and the first to do so in 23 years. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge later joined Ohtani in the back-to-back 50-homer years.

Ohtani’s 109 home runs in 2024-25 are 18 more than Shawn Green’s previous Dodgers record for a two-year span, set in 2001-02. Ohtani needed only 294 games to hit 100 home runs with the Dodgers, a whopping 105 games faster that Gary Sheffield’s team mark.

While his 20 stolen bases weren’t anywhere near his 59 steals a year before, Ohtani still had just the sixth-ever MLB season with at least 50 homers and 20 steals, and he’s the only one to do so twice.

Ohtani’s 146 runs scored broke Babe Herman’s modern-day Dodgers record, set in 1930 for Brooklyn. Counting the 19th century, the only Dodgers campaign with more runs scored was by Hub Collins with 148 in 1890.

Ohtani had 380 total bases this season, and his 791 total bases since the start of 2024 are 27 more than the previous two-year team record, held by Herman for 1929-30.

Ohtani hit 15 home runs in May, tying a Dodgers record for most home runs hit in any month. That earned Ohtani the NL player of the month award.

League-leading stats

146 runs scored (led MLB): Just the seventh season with that many runs since integration

380 total bases (led MLB): Before Ohtani, only two LA Dodgers led the NL in total bases (Matt Kemp in 2011, Cody Bellinger in 2019); Ohtani also led MLB in total bases in 2024; Duke Snider is the only other Dodger to lead the league in total bases multiple times, doing so for Brooklyn in 1950 and 1953-54.

89 extra-base hits (led MLB): The only LA Dodgers to lead the NL in extra-base hits are Ohtani (twice) and Freddie Freeman (2023).

9.4 FanGraphs WAR (led NL): This includes 7.5 fWAR as a position player, which also led the NL (Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo is second at 7.0), and 1.9 fWAR as a pitcher.

1.014 OPS (led NL): Ohtani also led the NL in 2024. The only other LA Dodger to lead the NL in OPS was Pedro Guerrero at .999 in 1985. Duke Snider (1953, 1956 for Brooklyn) is the only other Dodger to lead the NL in OPS twice.

179 OPS+ (led NL): Ohtani also led in 2024. He’s the first Dodger to lead the NL in OPS+ twice since Mike Piazza (1995, 1997).

172 wRC+ (led NL): Ohtani also led the NL in 2024.

.622 slugging percentage (led NL): Ohtani also led the NL in 2024. Much like OPS, Guerrero in 1985 was the only other LA Dodger leader in this category, and Snider (1953, 1956) is the only other Dodger to lead the league multiple times.

284 times on base (led NL): This counts hits, walks, and times hit by pitch (the numerator for on-base percentage). Ohtani also led the NL last season. The only other Dodgers to lead the NL in times on base were Freeman (2022), Brett Butler (1991), and Jim Giliam (1956).

Close calls

Ohtani’s 55 home runs were one shy of Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies for the National League lead.

Ohtani’s 109 walks are the second-most by a Los Angeles Dodgers, behind only Jim Wynn in 1975. Ohtani was the first Dodger to walk 100 times in a season since Sheffield in 2000.

Ohtani’s .392 on-base percentage was second in the NL to Juan Soto at .396.
