Rattler can really kind of play.
Saints' Spencer Rattler made another case as Saints QB on his birthday originally appeared on The Sporting News
Spencer Rattler celebrated his birthday on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the New Orleans Saints' quarterback, he still is looking for his first NFL victory. But that's not really the key takeaway from Rattler's outing in Buffalo against the Bills.
There's a reason the Bills didn't put the Saints away until very late. And the reason is Rattler.
He was sharp from the outset, knowing when to use his legs (6 rushes, 49 yards) and being efficient through the air (18-for-27, 66.7%).
In fact, Rattler appeared to have given the Saints a lead in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks. But replay review showed the football had just hit the ground midway through Cooks' catch process, so it was ruled incomplete and the Saints had to settle for a field goal.

Rattler is now 0-10 as a quarterback started in the NFL, and maybe last season, those losses were mostly warranted.
This season, Rattler has been solid. He's completing 67.1% of his passes. He's thrown five touchdowns compared to just one interception. He's run for some first downs.
In a lot of ways, Rattler vaguely resembles the player who, if he could've left college a year before he was allowed to, may have been in No. 1 overall pick discussion.
Two rough college seasons followed that made Rattler eventually a fifth-rounder, but he's clearly got talent.
The birthday is also of note: Rattler and rookie QB Tyler Shough share the same birthday. But Rattler is actually 365 days younger than this year's second-rounder Shough. If anything, it's Rattler who should have a chance as the Saints' QB of the future.
New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore has praised Rattler at every opportunity, and it's not fake. Rattler has done good things this season, and while the Saints will probably pursue another QB in the 2026 NFL Draft, Rattler is doing his best to give himself a legitimate NFL career.
