It was another frustrating game for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. Despite holding on for the 31-25 win over the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay, the Eagles once again struggled to involve their three-time Pro Bowler.

Even though quarterback Jalen Hurts targeted Brown nine times, he finished the game with just two catches for seven yards. Brown didn’t talk to reporters after the game, taking his frustrations to social media instead.

“I Love yall with all My heart,” Brown posted on X with an emoji of a heart with a bandage.

He then followed that up with a cryptic Biblical post from the gospel of Mark, chapter 6, verse 11.

“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way,” it read.

Who Was Brown’s Message Directed At?

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane provided clarity on who that post was meant for.

“That was pointed at someone or someones internally with the Eagles, two sources close to the receiver said,” according to McLane.

McLane added: “But even if Brown’s tweet was directed at Hurts, it’s going to take everyone on offense to become more of what they showed in the first half than the second half.”

New Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has struggled to feature Brown consistently this season. The wide receiver did have nine receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia’s Week 3 comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams, but the passing game didn’t click until the second half when they were down 26-7.

In the first two games, Brown combined for six catches for 35 yards and no scores. During the Eagles’ season debut against the Dallas Cowboys, Brown didn’t see his first target and reception until under two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The frustration between Brown and Hurts isn’t new. The two were involved in a mini-controversy during the 2024 Super Bowl season when defensive end Brandon Graham suggested last December that the relationship had soured.

“I don’t know the whole story, but I know that [Jalen Hurts] is trying, and I mean, [Brown] could be a little better with how he responds to things,” Graham said at the time. “And, they was friends before this, but things have changed. I understand that, because life happens, but it’s the business side that we have to make sure that we don’t let the personal get in the way of the business. And that’s what we gotta do better right now, because we know it’s an issue, everybody’s seeing some things. But we need to be able to talk things out as men. You know what I’m saying?

“But we need to let personal stuff go, and let’s get right for this game, because it’s like a lot of stuff most of the time it’s just a conversation that just needs to be had. But the person with the problem, gotta want to talk to the person, other than others.”

Graham later backtracked on those comments, and Hurts and Brown cleared the air.

But with issues bubbling to the surface for a second consecutive year, the Eagles need to figure out how to feature Brown — a top-five wide receiver in the game — before the situation spirals further.
