Checking in on a few old friends
After the Las Vegas Raiders lost 25-24 to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, let’s check in on a few former Raiders and see how Week 4 went for some old friends: Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs and Nate Hobbs.
Davante Adams
- Stats: 4 catches, 56 yards, 1 TD
- Game result: Rams win 27-20
This was a crazy game that somewhat cemented the Indianapolis Colts as a legitimate contender in the AFC with how they battled the Los Angeles Rams, whom many consider to be one of the best teams in the NFC. This was a back-and-forth affair, and a 10-yard score by Adams right before halftime gave the Rams the lead heading into the locker room. That gives him 106 career receiving TDs, tying Mike Evans for ninth all-time. Adams needs five more scores to match Tony Gonzalez for eighth overall. All of that being said, the biggest play by a Rams wide receiver made in this game was Tutu Atwell’s 88-yard touchdown catch with 1:33 left in the game to give Los Angeles the win.
Josh Jacobs
- Stats: 22 carries, 86 rushing yards, 2 TDs, 4 receptions, 71 receiving yards
- Game result: 40-40 tie
This was another back-and-forth afair where the Dallas Cowboys surprised a lot of people by hanging with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers’ offense had no problem moving the ball, though, and Jacobs was a big factor by accounting for nearly 160 total yards. He was also the team’s leading receiver and reignited his touchdown streak after breaking it last week, finding the endzone twice on Sunday night.
Nate Hobbs
- Stats: 7 total tackles, 1 PD
- Game result: 40-40 tie
As the score would indicate, the Packers’ defense had some struggles, and Hobbs was a big part of the problem. At one point in the second half, Pro Football Focus had him getting targeted six times and allowing five receptions, 57 yards, two touchdowns and a 145.8 passer rating (h/t Best Available’s Tyler Brooke). While Hobbs played well in Weeks 2 and 3 — he was injured for the season opener — Green Bay has been trying to play him on the outside and that was a struggle when Las Vegas tried him there, too. The Packers are hurting for corners, but they should probably slide the 2021 fifth-round pick back to nickel to get the most out of him.
