South African defender unavailable for the next two crucial matches
Ime Okon
Ime Okon, South Africa's defender, has suffered an injury ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Hannover 96 player will miss the matches against Zimbabwe and Rwanda scheduled for October.
Ime Okon will not feature in the final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The 21-year-old centre-back sustained a muscle injury to his right thigh after a collision with an opposing player during the 34th minute of Hannover 96’s 3-1 victory over Arminia Bielefeld. Medical tests conducted on Monday, September 29, confirmed he will be sidelined for several weeks.
Initially named in Hugo Broos’s 45-man preliminary squad, Okon will not be able to answer the call-up for the final two matchdays of the African qualifiers. South Africa is set to face Zimbabwe and Rwanda in October, as part of the race to the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
