The tight end is finally back.
Why Darren Waller came out of retirement to play for Dolphins after trade from Giants originally appeared on The Sporting News
It took a little longer than expected, but Darren Waller is finally back.
Waller has made a comeback from retirement, but he hasn't played through three weeks for the Miami Dolphins.
On Monday night, though, Waller is slated to be active against the New York Jets.
Waller was battling a hip injury that delayed the completion of his comeback.
But on a national stage, he's back.

Why did Darren Waller come out of retirement?
On July 1, Waller's return from retirement became public.
That's when news of a trade between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins came out.
Waller's rights had been held by the Giants upon his retirement, but he wanted to return and play for the Dolphins, so they traded him to Miami for a sixth-round pick.
In Miami, Waller signed a one-year, $5 million deal.
Waller hadn't played since 2023 with the Giants.
His best NFL years came with the Raiders. In 2019, he had 90 catches for 1,145 yards and three TDs.
His career year came in 2020: 107 catches, 1,196 yards, nine TDs.
Waller would have 665 yards in 11 games for the Raiders in 2021, then last just nine games in 2022.
He left for the Giants in 2023, and in 12 games, he caught 52 passes for 552 yards.
Waller turned 33 years old on Sept. 13. At 6-foot-6, he might still be a good red zone target for the Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
