VOTE NOW: Who should be The Star Press IU Health Athlete of the Week for Sept. 22-27?

The time has come once again to vote for The Star Press East Central Indiana high school Athlete of the Week, brought to you by IU Health.

The reigning co-Athletes of the Week from Sept. 15-20 are Yorktown girls golfers Lindsey Mathews and Alysse Taylor. Mathews and Taylor both shot an 80 in Sectional 17 at Crestview Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 20. They tied for third place individually and helped lead Yorktown to its first girls golf sectional trophy since 2015. They received 8,091 out of 20,046 votes cast (40.36%).

This week's poll brings us 10 more nominees who had standout performances during the week of Sept. 22-27. Please vote using the poll found by scrolling to the bottom of this page — votes submitted via email will not be counted. The poll will remain open until noon on Friday, Oct. 3.

Here's a quick look at this week's nominees:

  • Elijah Bell, Delta boys soccer: Delta's senior goalkeeper leads the Hoosier Heritage Conference in goals allowed average at 0.796. He logged three saves during the Eagles' 9-0 win over Wapahani on Monday, Sept. 22, seven saves during a 4-2 win over Muncie Burris on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and 14 saves in a 2-0 loss to Pendleton Heights on Saturday, Sept. 21, to bring his season saves total to 81.
  • Gabe Peters, Wapahani boys soccer: Peters scored a hat trick during Wapahani's 5-2 win over Blackford on Tuesday, Sept. 23. He logged an assist in the Raiders' 2-0 win over Liberty Christian on Thursday, Sept. 25, then scored a goal and assisted on the other in a 2-1 win over Seton Catholic on Saturday, Sept. 26.
  • Angel Rueda, Muncie Central boys soccer: Rueda scored two goals and assisted on two others in Central's 6-0 win over Yorktown on Monday, Sept. 22. He also scored a goal in the Bearcats' 3-0 win over Centerville on Thursday, Sept. 25.
  • London Lloyd, Jay County girls soccer: Lloyd scored two goals and assisted on another in Jay County's 4-0 victory over Heritage on Saturday, Sept. 27. The win clinched a second-consecutive Allen County Athletic Conference championship for the Patriots, as they completed conference play with a perfect 7-0 record.
  • Stella Buemer, Muncie Burris girls soccer: Buemer scored four goals in Burris' 9-0 win over Muncie Central on Monday, Sept. 22. She followed that up with two goals and an assist in Burris' 4-0 win over Anderson on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
  • Wyatt Turner, Yorktown boys cross country: Turner was the individual champion at the Hoosier Heritage Conference cross country championship on Saturday, Sept. 27, finishing the 5K at Shelbyville in 16:06.64. Turner helped Yorktown win the HHC team championship for the first time in school history.
  • Anyah Amman, New Castle girls cross country: Amman earned all-conference honors (top 15) with a 13th-place finish at the HHC cross country championship, finishing the 5K in 21:23.06.
  • Kyra Murry, Delta volleyball: Murry posted a season-highs in kills (25), digs (25) and aces (five) in Delta's 3-2 victory over Muncie Central on Tuesday, Sept. 23. She also recorded 22 kills, 21 digs and another ace in the Eagles' 3-1 win over Shelbyville on Saturday, Sept. 27.
  • Mya Trammell, Yorktown volleyball: Trammell had a strong week that culminated in a big career milestone. She logged seven kills and a season-high five aces during the Tigers' 3-0 win against Greenfield-Central on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The next night, she matched her season-high with 16 kills in a 3-1 victory over Cathedral. During Yorktown's 3-0 victory over Noblesville on Saturday, Sept. 27, Trammell logged her 1,000th career dig.
  • Savannah Hall, Cowan volleyball: Hall tied her season-high with 16 kills in Cowan's 3-0 conference win over Union (Modoc) on Wednesday, Sept. 24. She also recorded five kills, 10 digs and tied her season-high for solo blocks with four in a 2-0 win over Wes-Del at the Class A Showcase tournament hosted by Blue River Valley on Saturday, Sept. 27.
