Bear Bachmeier’s impressive start to his college career continues to garner attention.

BYU’s true freshman QB has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for his efforts this past weekend against Colorado, the conference announced Monday.

Bachmeier previously won the award after his Week 1 debut against Portland State.

Against the Buffaloes Saturday, Bachmeier led the Cougars out of an early 14-point deficit to win 24-21 on the road. He threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns, completed 70.4% of his passes and carried the ball 15 times for 98 yards as well.

“Yeah, I thought he did a great job,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said of Bachmeier after the Colorado victory. “It didn’t ever look like, from my perspective, that he was frazzled or that he was shell-shocked at all. So that’s a huge (plus).

“That’s how he came to us. He came like that, so credit to his family and the way he was raised. He was a cool customer, and I loved the way he was leading out there.”

Through four games in 2025, Bachmeier has thrown for 697 yards with six touchdowns and a 154.8 passer rating. He’s also ran for 163 yards and four touchdowns, and most impressively, he has yet to throw an interception or lose a fumble.
