The Dolphins announced two roster moves on Monday ahead of their game against the New York Jets.
The Miami Dolphins announced the signing of kicker Riley Patterson to the team’s 53-man roster on Monday, a move that was expected prior to the team’s kickoff against the New York Jets. Patterson spent the first three weeks on the team’s practice squad, being elevated for each week’s game. Under NFL rules, however, a player can only be elevated three times during a season, requiring him to be added to the active roster if he is going to play any additional games.
Patterson has been serving as Miami’s kicker in place of Jason Sanders, who is on injured reserve. Sanders could be eligible to come off IR as early as Tuesday, but head coach Mike McDaniel hinted that the incumbent kicker is not ready to be activated.
To make space for Patterson, the Dolphins placed rookie cornerback Jason Marshall, Jr., on injured reserve. Marshall had already been ruled out of the Monday Night Football contest as he deals with a hamstring injury, but now will be shut down for at least four weeks.
Marshall has recorded three tackles in his three games played this season.
The Dolphins did not elevate any players from the practice squad for Monday’s game.
Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m. Eastern from Hard Rock Stadium.
