The top teams in Utah high school football are well-established at this point and the 2025 season continues to creep toward the postseason.
Corner Canyon bounced back from its stunning loss last week with a monster win over No. 3 Skyridge. One week after upsetting Corner Canyon, No. 2 Lone Peak then lost to American Fork in another close game.
Another big week of games are on deck. Seven matchups between top-25 squads will commence this Friday. Below are the top 25 teams in Utah heading into the eighth week of the season, according to the Massey Ratings.
1. Corner Canyon Chargers (6-1)
After losing to Lone Peak for the second time in as many seasons, Corner Canyon got back on the right foot in a major way. Junior running back Jackson Carruth needed just nine carries to compile four touchdowns in the win. Senior four-star quarterback and Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga threw for 301 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The Chargers now look to capture a 9-1 regular season, with games against Cedar Valley, American Fork and Lehi still to come.
2. Lone Peak Knights (5-2)
After securing one of the biggest upsets of the season nationally, Lone Peak immediately stumbled its next time out against No. 4 American Fork. The Knights’ defense allowed two touchdowns in the first and second quarter, leading to a two-score deficit at halftime. Lone Peak scored twice in the fourth quarter, but an American Fork field goal propelled the Cavemen to a major 31-28 win. Lone Peak junior QB Cruz Christensen threw for 296 yards in the loss. Now 5-2, the Knights also have another big game on deck as they head to No. 3 Skyridge.
3. Skyridge Falcons (5-2)
Skyridge was unable to muster enough stops against top-ranked Corner Canyon last week, as the Chargers compiled over 450 yards. The Falcons used two quarterbacks in the loss. Usual senior starter Kaneal Sweetwyne threw for 134 yards and two interceptions, while sophomore Jagger Fountaine threw for 131 yards, a touchdown and an INT in the 49-14 defeat. They now look to bounce back in another monumental battle, this time at home against No. 2 Lone Peak.
4. American Fork Cavemen (6-1)
American Fork lost its first game this year against No. 5 Davis on Sept. 19. Instead of licking their wounds, the Cavemen came back in a big way last week, stunning No. 2 Lone Peak 31-28. Senior QB Kapono Manuela finished with 231 passing yards and a touchdown while running back Prince Afu rushed for two scores. American Fork will finish the regular season with No. 8 Lehi this week, then No. 1 Corner Canyon and No. 3 Skyridge.
5. Davis Darts (6-1)
It was another masterful performance from Davis senior QB and Boise State commit Tradon Bessinger in a 54-22 thrashing of No. 12 Syracuse. Completing 32 of 41 attempts, Bessinger chucked for a whopping 504 yards, five touchdowns and a pick. He continues to look like the top passer in the Mountain West and will carry the Darts far in the postseason. Davis now heads to No. 17 Farmington this week.
