This past Saturday, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson answered any possible questions about being the successor to a long line of NFL pros who started at the position in Tuscaloosa.

Simpson was in spectacular command of the Crimson Tide’s offense at Sanford Stadium in his team’s 24-21 win over the Georgia Bulldogs, executing all of the play-calls Ryan Grubb cooked up on his first night as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.

The Tuscaloosa News’ Chase Goodbread believes Alabama’s first four games proved Kalen DeBoer and Co. have a “big-time quarterback” and “among the SEC’s best” under center in Simpson.

“Following the Crimson Tide's 24-21 win over Georgia, we now know that Alabama has itself a big-time quarterback. And no, we didn't know that already. After a decent performance in a season-opening loss to Florida State and his dismantling of lesser-talented Louisiana-Monroe and Wisconsin in subsequent weeks, the Crimson Tide held hope that it had something special in the fourth-year junior. But it wasn't a certainty until the Bulldogs' 33-game home win streak, dating back to October of 2019, came crashing down,” Goodbread wrote.

“What Georgia fans witnessed, along with a galling loss that dropped coach Kirby Smart's record against the Crimson Tide to 1-7, was the arrival of a quarterback who now must be considered among the SEC's best. Perhaps its very best, although the remaining two-thirds of the regular season will be required to stamp that claim. Simpson carved up the Georgia secondary drive after drive, amassing 111 yards in the first quarter alone and maintaining impressive command of a highly-efficient offense.”

Grubb taking over play-calling duties from Nick Sheridan has opened up Simpson’s game during his first season as the team’s starter. It’s legitimate to wonder if Jalen Milroe’s development would’ve been dramatically different in the current offense. Milroe’s 2024 season arguably moved him back from a late first-round projection to the third round.

Simpson is arriving in a big way, one not many would’ve anticipated before the season. There was more anxiety than anything from the fan base, but the QB position is the one on the field that produces the least worry for the Tide in 2025.

If anything, it’s producing hope, with Alabama now ranked No. 10 and in a good position to move up with a win over the No. 16 Vanderbilt Commodores at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
