Winger names one thing Chelsea need after “unbelievable” red card mistakes

Like a middle order batsman coming into a tricky situation and calming things down with some good defensive play, Pedro Neto showed off a masterclass in Chelsea’s Champions League press conference today.

He fended off pressing questions from journalists looking to catch him out as he discussed his team’s recent struggles. Simon Johnson asked if perhaps the team had set standards unrealistically high with their Club World Cup win back in July.

Neto says Chelsea still “want to do much better”

“I want to do better. I think as a team we want to do much better as well,” Neto answered.

“It’s not about a target, the standards we put are really high, and I think we have been playing well. We have been doing a lot of good stuff, the problems come from our own mistakes. And that’s what we have to improve. Last season we showed what we have to do, and this season we’re going to do great stuff.”

He maintained that positive outlook throughout, we especially liked how he complimented Johnson for the question – that’s how you get journalists onside.

The other pertinent question was about the mistakes his team has made in recent games:

“I don’t know if it’s a lack of concentration, but the way we conceded the red card was an unbelievable way to concede it from the way we were controlling the game.”

“We are not here to blame anyone, as a team we have to go to the game with more focus. In the Premier League and the Champions League, you can’t rest for one second – you give away presents and then you’re out of the game.”
