Germany footballer Laura Freigang says she unintentionally revealed she is in a relationship with a woman.
"The fact that it became public that I have a girlfriend was a mistake. I actually wanted to save the video privately for myself and accidentally uploaded it," the 27-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt striker said in an interview with the Tagesspiegel newspaper on Tuesday.
Freigang had posted the video on TikTok during her holiday in August following the European Championship.
However, she said it was ultimately the best way for the news to break, "because I didn’t want to hide anything anyway," added the 2024 Olympic bronze medallist and 2022 European Championship runner-up.
"Still, I never actually wanted to have to come out, because it’s not a fact that deserves a statement. We are living in times where, unfortunately, this is still not normal.
"(But) if you go public with something like this and it brings about positive things and encourages people to open up about the topic, then that’s something beautiful."
