Rodrigo Bentancur is close to agreeing to a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Sun. The 28-year-old is out of a contract at the end of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club. However, Spurs head coach Thomas Frank is a huge admirer of Bentancur and rates him highly. He wants to keep the Uruguayan international at Tottenham in the long term, and both parties have agreed to an extension.
Spurs handed Cristian Romero a new deal some weeks ago and Bentancur is set to be next. He has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this term despite the arrival of Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich. It was thought the signing of the Portuguese would limit the game time of Bentancur, but both have combined well in the middle of the park and Frank wants to hold on to him for as long as possible.
He joined Tottenham from Juventus in January 2022 and has made 121 appearances across all competitions, making himself a key player under every manager since then.
