Bremer, Khephren Thuram unavailable for Juventus’ trip to face Villarreal

Two very important players won’t be in Spain when Juventus take on Villarreal on Wednesday night.

We already knew that Juventus would be making their first away trip of the Champions League this season coming off some frustrating results. Now they also know that two of their best players are going to be staying back in Italy, too.

When Juve’s traveling squad to face Villarreal on Wednesday night came out a little bit before 24 hours before kickoff, two very notable names were not on it, with Gleison Bremer and Khephren Thuram not deemed fit enough to play the yellow-clad Spaniards. This isn’t necessarily a surprise considering both Bremer and Thuram were reportedly doubts to face Villarreal coming out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta in Turin. And that proved to be right on the money, as it was only Bremer that was present at training with the rest of the group during Tuesday’s session at Continassa prior to departure for Spain.

Later in the day, Tudor did update the status of the missing duo, saying at his pre-match press conference: “They have a couple of problems which means they can’t play, but they should make it back for the game against Milan.”

Juventus do have one player who was out injured against Atalanta back in the squad, as Francisco Conceição has been called up after missing Saturday’s draw. The only other injured player who wasn’t called up was Fabio Miretti. (Remember, Arek Milik is not a part of Juventus’ Champions League squad for the league phase.)

Tudor did not give many hints as to how he will try and fill the void left by Bremer and Thuram not being available to face Villarreal. He was asked about potentially switching to a four-man backline compared to his customary 3-4-1-2, a question in which he basically answered “It might happen, or it might not happen.)
