It’s time to take a look at where the Steelers sit in the latest power rankings
The Steelers enter the bye week with a 3-1 record after an impressive win across the pond in Ireland. This game felt like a statement win for the Steelers, who played their most complete game as a team to date. Even without Jaylen Warren, the Steelers’ running game managed the clock in a game where the Steelers led by multiple possessions for the majority of the second half. Pittsburgh’s defensive stars stepped up as T.J. Watt and DeShon Elliott each recorded interceptions.
Let’s take a look at what the national media thinks of the Steelers after one month of football in the latest power rankings.
ESPN No. 11 (No. 17 last week)
“The Steelers rank 31st with 80 rushing yards per game, but they took a step forward with 131 against the Vikings, including 99 from Kenneth Gainwell. The next step is improving that part of the offense with Jaylen Warren, who missed the Vikings win with a knee injury and is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. The Steelers need better interior blocking to help spring Warren, but they found some success Sunday by adding extra blockers in offensive lineman Spencer Anderson and tight end Darnell Washington. That could be the key to future success.” – Brooke Pryor
CBS Sports No. 9 (No. 18 last week)
“Mike Tomlin has done a great job getting this team to 3-1. In a division where the other three teams have issues, the Steelers just might win the AFC North.” – Pete Prisco
The Sporting News No. 9 (No. 13 last week)
“The Steelers’ defense erupted in Dublin with the pass rush raising to new needed heights. Aaron Rodgers and the offensive drama isn’t there; just results.” – Vinnie Iyer
USA Today No. 10 (No. 14 last week)
“When your offense has gained the fourth-fewest yards and your defense has surrendered the fourth most, you’ve got to feel pretty good about a 3-1 start − especially in light of the issues facing Pittsburgh’s AFC North foes.” – Nate Davis
The Steelers certainly deserved to climb the rankings after their win over Minnesota. The Steelers have several important divisional games against the Browns and the banged-up Bengals, where they have an opportunity to strengthen their lead in the AFC North and further rise up the power rankings.
