Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler began serving a four-day jail sentence in Tennessee's Williamson County for driving under the influence and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.

Police documents show Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tenn., in October, after rear-ending another vehicle and trying to leave the scene after offering $2,000 to the vehicle's driver to not call the police, according to The Hill.

Responding police said Cutler had bloodshot eyes, was slurring his words and possessed a handgun while intoxicated.

He initially denied drinking alcohol but eventually admitted that he had "a little bit," which led to his arrest on DUI and possessing a firearm while under the influence charges.

Cutler accepted a plea deal last month that dropped the firearm charge in exchange for surrendering the handgun to local authorities, Fox News reported.

He began serving his sentence Monday morning in the Williamson County Jail

Cutler was an NFL quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins from 2006 through 2017.

He played in 153 games, completing 2,048 passes on 4,920 attempts for a 62% completion rate, 227 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, according to ESPN.

Cutler also totaled 1,682 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 386 rushing attempts for an average gain of 4.4 yards per rush.

Franklin is about 15 miles south of Nashville and home to many country music artists and others, such as actress Nicole Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, who recently announced their separation.
