Is Ohio State football still No. 1 according to Joel Klatt after a win at Washington

Week 5 provided a full slate of top-tier games in college football. We take a look at Joel Klatt's latest rankings. Where does he have Ohio State?

Another week of college football has come and gone. Ohio State was able to get out of Washington with a win and remain undefeated. Others in the Top 25 weren't so lucky, as we saw several previously undefeated teams take the loss for a first blemish on the record.

So, what does Joel Klatt think after a week of upsets and several hard-fought battles? Florida State had been a staple in Klatt's ranking, but after a loss to Virginia, will the Seminoles remain? Alabama got the best of Georgia on the road, and Oregon got through a White Out in Happy Valley for an impressive victory. Who's in, who's out, and did anyone do enough to supplant the Buckeyes at Klatt's No. 1 team?

Time to take a look and see how Joel Klatt ranks the Top 10 teams in the country.

No. 10 - Georgia Bulldogs

Last week's ranking - No. 3

What we think

Well, Kirby Smart is now just 1-7 in his career against Alabama. In what's been an otherwise stellar coaching career, the Tide remains a thorn in Smart's side. Georgia still has a manageable schedule and largely controls its own destiny, but the margin for error got a wee bit smaller.

No. 9 - Penn State Nittany Lions

Last week's ranking - No. 4

What we think

As bad as Kirby Smart has been against Alabama, James Franklin has been just as bad against all other top ten teams. Franklin is just 4-21 in games played against top ten opponents. Yikes! Ultimately, the players have to make plays, and Drew Aller has largely underperformed when the spotlight is the brightest. He needs to be better if the Nittany Lions hope to make a run in the College Football Playoff.

No. 8 - Alabama Crimson Tide

Last week's ranking - N/A

What we think

Don't look now, but Alabama looks like a totally different team than it did in a season-opening loss to Florida State. Whether the Crimson Tide overlooked the 'Noles or just had an off game, that debacle is a distant memory. Bama looks like everything we thought it would be prior to the beginning of the season.

No. 7 - Indiana Hoosiers

Last week's ranking: No. 9

What we think

Indiana is out to prove last year was no fluke. A game at Iowa didn't net the same blowout results as the previous week against Illinois; however, the win over the Hawkeyes may have shown us a little more about this team. The Hoosiers showed poise in a tight contest and were able to come out on top. The rest of the Big Ten had better take notice.

No. 6 - Ole Miss Rebels

Last week's ranking: N/A

What we think

Up until last week's game, we didn't really know if Ole Miss was worthy of being a highly ranked team, even with an undefeated record. The Rebels put the rest of the SEC on notice. In two weeks, Ole Miss will go on the road back-to-back weeks against ranked opponents, Georgia and Oklahoma. The Rebs will be favored in the final four games of their regular season.

No. 5 - Texas Longhorns

Last week's ranking: No. 10

What we think

The Longhorns had a bye week and moved up five spots. After a week one loss to Ohio State, Texas can't have too much more in the way of missteps, and with four ranked teams left on the schedule, things don't necessarily play out in the 'Horns favor.

No. 4 - Texas A&M Aggies

Last week's ranking: N/A

What we think

Quarterback Marcell Reed has the Texas A&M offense humming. The Aggies have passed every test thus far in the season, and now they get Mississippi State, which took Tennessee to overtime before succumbing to the Vols. Overall, A&M has a pretty easy road in the coming weeks before a matchup with LSU in Baton Rouge.

No. 3 - Miami Hurricanes

Last week's ranking: No. 2

What we think

It was shaping up to be an epic showdown, and it still might be, but the luster has worn off just a bit after Florida State fell to Virginia on Friday night. It seems like the Seminoles got caught looking ahead to a rivalry game with the Hurricanes. If Miami can get past FSU, it has nothing but clear sailing ahead.

No. 2 - Oregon Ducks

Oregon running back Jordon Davison, left and Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq celebrate a touchdown by Davison as the Oregon Ducks face the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sept. 27, 2025, at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Last week's ranking: No. 5

What we think

It's no easy task going into Beaver Stadium at night and coming away with a win. But that's exactly what Oregon did. And now, all of a sudden, Indiana coming to town in two weeks is going to be must-see TV. The Hoosiers will provide the last big test for the Ducks until late in the season.

No. 1 - Ohio State Buckeyes

Sep 27, 2025; Seattle, Washington, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (4) runs for a touchdown after catching a pass against the Washington Huskies during the second quarter at Husky Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images

Last week's ranking: No. 1

What we think

Ohio State continues to look like the most complete team in the country. The Offense is solid while still learning how good it can be, but the defense? Is it possible that this year's version of the Silver Bullets is even better than last year's? So far, the numbers say yes. It's a defense that can carry an entire team. Yeah... we think Klatt got this one right for sure.
