Yes, the current TNA world champion is on the NXT side.
We knew General Manager Ava and Director of Authority Santino Marella would be on this week’s episode of NXT television, the fallout show from No Mercy, to name the teams for the NXT vs. TNA Showdown coming up on Oct. 7. There will be two Survivor Series style elimination matches, one on the men’s side and one on the women’s side.
That meant 8 names total from both promotions.
They opened the evening by naming team captains, with the champions of the respective divisions naturally getting those slots. That wasn’t the case for TNA, of course, because Marella cannot trust anyone named “Tricky,” even if he is the current TNA world champion. Instead, Mike Santana got that spot.
The night featured the captains finding teammates as it wore on, via negotiating, some backdoor meetings, and even matches.
Here’s what we ended up with:
Men’s teams
NXT – NXT Champion Ricky Saints (team captain), Myles Borne, TNA Champion Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans,
TNA – Mike Santana (team captain), Frankie Kazarian, Moose, Leon Slater
Women’s teams
NXT – Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne (team captain), Lola Vice, North American & Speed Champion Sol Ruca, Jaida Parker
TNA – Knockout’s Champion Kelani Jordan (team captain), Jessie McKay, Cassie Lee, Mara Shade
