In recent weeks, reports have linked Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez with a potential move to Barcelona in the summer of 2026.
The Argentine forward, however, has now poured cold water on those rumours, making it clear that he is not paying attention to transfer talk.
Alvarez, speaking to ESPN, was quick to dismiss the speculation.
“I’m very calm. There’s always talk, but the truth is that the season is just starting now. My focus is on improving every day, win for Atletico.
“That’s the only thing on my mind… social media stories are beyond me,” he said.
Despite his comments, Alvarez continues to be admired by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who reportedly sees the 25-year-old as the dream signing for 2026.
Laporta has been following him closely since his days at Manchester City, when Barça already showed interest in the striker back in 2024.
No move happened then, but the admiration has never faded.

The challenge for Barcelona is not Alvarez’s talent but his price tag. Atletico have tied their star down to a contract until 2030, with a staggering €500 million release clause.
Club sources have hinted that they would only consider bids north of €200 million, making any pursuit complicated.
Atletico also see Alvarez as the central figure of their long-term project, meaning they have no financial need to sell. That leaves Barcelona facing an almost impossible equation.
With debts still being restructured and La Liga’s strict salary limits in play, a deal of this magnitude would require major sacrifices, such as selling key players or drastically cutting the wage bill.
Still, Alvarez’s name will not disappear from Barcelona’s agenda. Laporta’s admiration for the striker is well known, and if the financial picture improves by 2026, he could once again become the president’s main target.
