According to French daily L’Equipe, Liverpool FC are confident of agreeing a new contract agreement with defender Ibrahima Konate. They have offered a new contract extension, with their latest bid submitted two weeks ago.
The outlet adds that Liverpool have restructured their offer on multiple occasions. Reportedly, Liverpool first made an offer in December last year, but that fell short of Konaté’s expectations. Talks resumed in Spring, with several revisions to the offer, resulting in the new offer made two weeks ago.
Talks between all parties are ongoing, but as reported the club remain confident an agreement will eventually be reached.
Ibou has been in poor form this season so the timing’s funny but still, I’d welcome an extension. We know the heights he can reach, how good he can be in this system and it’s up to the coaches to get him there again. An extension removes the need for Liverpool to buy potentially two centre-backs next summer, and dwindles it down to a more manageable one. But still, we’ve heard this sort of talk before with other contract impasses, so we’ll see if this comes to fruition.
