Browns make change at QB official Wednesday

Browns moving away from Joe Flacco as the starter, inserting Dillon Gabriel as the team’s starting QB for Week 5

The second Joe Flacco era has come to an end, at least for now, for the Cleveland Browns prior to their Week 5 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings from London, England. Flacco’s first stint with the Browns ended up with an NFL playoff appearance and the Comeback Player of the Year Award. After a year away, Cleveland signed Flacco this offseason to give the team a veteran option at the most important position on the field.

In four games, Flacco completed just 58% of his passes for 815 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions.

Rumors started on Tuesday Dillon Gabriel would be taking over as the team’s starter. Wednesday morning, prior to the team’s practice and flight to London, HC Kevin Stefanski reportedly informed the team of the change to Gabriel:

A third-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Gabriel had six years of college experience, with three different teams, and is the all-time leader in career passing touchdowns in FBS history. Known for his accuracy coming out, Gabriel has played in two games so far, in mop-up duty, for Cleveland this season, completing three of his four passes for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Reportedly, Shedeur Sanders will remain the third, emergency QB with Flacco as the backup:

We will hear from Stefanski later today, where the head coach is likely to confirm the decision.

Do you think the Browns made a good decision to move on from Flacco to start Gabriel?
