Even on list of 41 starting QBs, Browns' Dillon Gabriel is unique

He stands out for one reason.

The list is long and pretty painful to look at it.

But until Dillon Gabriel, something was missing on the Cleveland Browns' docket of quarterbacks to start a game since the team returned to the city in 1999.

The 40 names preceding Gabriel all threw with their right arm.

Gabriel is a lefty.

There are very few left-handed QBs in the NFL, in this era or any era.

Miami Dolphins' southpaw Tua Tagovailoa is the only left-hander that starts right now, 1-of-32.

Gabriel isn't a big guy, but he's got an incredibly accurate left arm.

He set records with that left arm on a three-stop college journey that earned him selection in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft at No. 94 overall.

Now, it'll get a chance to show what it can do in the professional ranks as Gabriel takes over for Joe Flacco in Week 5 of the season. The Browns are playing in London on Sunday against an aggressive Minnesota Vikings defense.

Whether or not Gabriel is up for the task might not even be the pertinent point here. The Browns need to give him a large enough sample size before potentially taking a first-round QB in the 2026 draft. They needed to make the pivot away from the 40-year old Flacco.

And in doing so, they've brought a lefty into a club that it's not obvious someone would actually want to be a part of.
