The 2025 college football season has quickly turned into a showcase for Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, whose play has exceeded expectations that followed him to Eugene.
Through five games, Moore has not only led the Ducks to a perfect 5-0 start but also placed himself in the Heisman conversation, thanks to being one of the nation’s top passers. He's currently completing 75 percent of his passes with a sparkling 14-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The defining performance of Moore’s season came in Oregon’s dramatic 30-24 double-overtime victory at Penn State last weekend. He handled the White Out environment like a seasoned veteran, going 29-of-39 for 248 yards and three touchdowns while adding 35 rushing yards.
Moore silenced doubts about his mobility and showed he could deliver under the brightest lights. One defensive coordinator who faced Oregon this season gave their honest opinion on the Ducks' quarterback to The Athletic. He was described as “smooth as hell, and no panic,” praising his arm strength, ability to throw deep, and natural ability.
That same mix of polish has caught the attention of NFL evaluators. An NFL scouting director who has studied Moore’s development said he's “a smooth athlete with good arm talent” and noted that he “runs well enough to extend plays.” Just as important, the director was impressed by Moore’s demeanor, saying that he came across as humble, team-oriented, and “an awesome kid.” But the NFL evaluator acknowledged areas of growth, pointing out that Moore’s field vision can be inconsistent and stressed the importance of further development.
While Moore and his camp appear committed to staying at Oregon, the landscape could shift. With the 2026 quarterback class shaping up weaker than anticipated, NFL scouts may begin pressing the case for Moore to consider an early exit.
For now, however, the Ducks are enjoying every bit of their breakout star, even as fans brace for the possibility that their quarterback’s time in Eugene may not last as long as they hope.
