Julius Avent, a four-star power forward in the 2026 class, has committed to Michigan State, he told Rivals.

The 6-foot-7 senior out of Bergen Catholic (NJ) ultimately chose the Spartans over Xavier and Seton Hall, but also received offers from Penn State, Providence, and others.

Avent, a native of Springfield, NJ, is ranked as the No. 80 overall player in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He’s also the No. 11 power forward and the No. 2 player in Jersey.

Avent is Michigan State’s second commitment this cycle, joining four-star PG Carlos Medlock Jr. (No. 76 NATL).

Avent on his commitment to Michigan State

Julius Avent discussed his decision to choose Michigan State with Rivals.

“I chose Michigan State because it felt like home from the moment I stepped on campus. The tradition, the culture, and the way the program develops players on and off the court really stood out to me. Also, being able to get the chance to prove myself on the highest level is important to me as well. And somewhere I can feel at home away from home and I think Michigan State offers that too.”

What led to his trust in the coaching staff?

“The coaching staff been doing a great job recruiting me since last year so we built up a good relationship. Their vision for how they can develop me, stood out to me. Also, Coach Izzo’s track record speaks for itself. He’s built a legacy of not only winning but also developing players like me. Seeing how many guys he’s coached that went on to succeed in the NBA gave me confidence that he knows what it takes, and that he can help me get there too.”

In his own words, what type of player is Michigan State getting in Avent?

“I’d describe my game as a very versatile player who can give you a little bit of everything. Doing whatever it takes to help my team succeed. Whether it’s making big plays, and pushing myself every game. On the offensive end someone who can spread the floor from 3 push the ball in transition and make plays for my team or myself. And on defense someone who can guard multiple positions and rebound.”

He has a message for Michigan State fans.

“Spartan fans can expect someone who’s all in. I’m excited to give everything I have and to represent Michigan state. So, I’m ready to turn up next season for sure.”
