Jai Opetaia will finally meet undeserving mandatory challenger Huseyin Cinkara in two months
After an injury on the challenger’s part delayed things earlier this year, IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia is officially set to meet mandatory contender Huseyin Cinkara atop a December 6th show at Queensland, Australia’s Gold Coast Convention Centre.
Opetaia’s (28-0, 22 KO) quixotic quest to unify the cruiserweight titles remains in limbo thanks to Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s shoulder injury and the that that the WBC belt gets defended once every few years. Thus, his third bout of the year will see him look to clear his obligations for the next 12 months against Cinkara (23-0, 19 KO), a 40-year-old for whom the descriptor “IBF mandatory” is as derogatory as it’s ever been.
Justis Huni looks to bounce back from his comeback knockout loss to Fabio Wardley against TBA in the co-feature, while Teremoana Teremoana highlights the undercard.
