ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — For their win over the Grissom Tigers and first win in over three years, the Albertville Aggies have earned Team of the Week.
The 20-18 win snapped a 33-game losing skid and marked the first win of the Adam Winegarden era.
‘I’m really proud of the team and how they’ve progressed throughout the year, to see them slowly improve as the year’s gone,” Winegarden said. “The scoreboard isn’t a reflection of who we are team, but it is always great to end up on top.”
Senior Cooper Scott said the team knew heading into the game with Grissom that the team knew this was the week to beat the streak.
“It was crazy, you know, we were all, the whole week we were all saying like this is the week, you know we got to make it happen this week, you know the bus ride back, you know we were all like this don’t feel real,” Scott said. “We get back to the town, you know, the whole town threw the parade, I just thank God, man, it was crazy.”
Cooper said the win has given the team some confidence.
It was crazy, man, it was a surreal feeling,” Scott said. “We worked continuously this whole summer. Coach Winegarden came in and gave us a new attitude about life and about football.”
The Aggies have the week off before taking on Huntsville on Oct. 10.
