Coach Niko Kovac admitted that Borussia Dortmund had a bit of luck in the 4-1 Champions League home win against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday evening.
Dortmund scored two late goals to seal their first victory in the new Champions League season, but had a stressful second half, in which Bilbao had their equalizer ruled out for offside.
"We did almost everything right until it was 2-0. Then they made it 2-1 and it was a bit tricky for us for a while," Kovac said after the match.
"Tactically, we were better today and we also had that little bit of luck. You need luck in the Champions League too," he added.
Dortmund avoided a repeat of their dramatic draw in the opener against Juventus. The German team led 4-2 until the stoppage time, when the Italians scored two goals to snatched a point.
Midfielder Julian Brandt said that Dortmund "could have sealed the deal after going 2-0 up" against Bilbao.
"We didn't and that made things a bit stressful. We need to learn from that. But the important thing is that we got the win in the end."
"In the second half, it was all a bit chaotic. We were lucky with the disallowed goal. During that period, we allowed things to become exciting."
