Steelers’ bye week: Broderick Jones leads top 3 disappointments through four games

Here are the three biggest disappointing players through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first four games, ahead of their Week 5 bye.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the middle of a much-needed Week 5 bye, giving us four games to rate some of the biggest disappointments of the 2025 season so far — with these 3 serving as the most glaring examples.

The offseason hype behind Jones' switch back to left tackle was unreal — which is why his early struggles are an even harder pill to swallow. He’s slowly started to turn things around over the past two weeks, but it hardly alleviates the disappointment surrounding his position as the weakest link on a struggling offensive line.

WR Roman Wilson

Remember when 2025 was billed as Wilson's breakout year? Me too. Over the first four games of the season, Wilson has played more than 20% of snaps just once. He has caught only one ball for seven yards on two targets. If anyone thought Wilson could finally reach his potential in the wake of Calvin Austin's shoulder injury — think again — as OC Arthur Smith claimed Pittsburgh is going to take a committee approach in replacing the lightning-fast receiver.

RB Kaleb Johnson

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson (20) gets ready to catch the Jets punt and run the ball, Sunday, September 7, 2025, in East Rutherford.

The Johnson hype train was derailed before it could ever really get going — but that doesn’t make it any less difficult to stomach four games into the season. Selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Johnson was projected to play a big role in Pittsburgh's rushing offense but struggled early in the preseason — giving way to RBs Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell’s stranglehold on the running game. He’s rushed the ball just eight times for a mere 21 yards and proved less than effective on kick return duties — committing one of the worst rookie mistakes of all time against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
