Newcastle United have confirmed that Tino Livramento faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering knee ligament damage in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old went down following a clash with William Saliba in the 72nd minute, landing awkwardly and immediately clutching his left knee. Though he briefly tried to continue, Livramento collapsed again a minute later and was stretchered off the pitch. Jamaal Lascelles replaced him on 77 minutes.

The setback rules the full-back out of both remaining England camps in 2025, with the next one due to start on November 10. His absence comes as a blow for Eddie Howe’s squad, already dealing with injuries and struggling for consistency in attack.

Chris Waugh, Newcastle correspondent for The Athletic, stressed that the outcome is a relative positive for club and player.

“In a relative sense, this represents positive news for Livramento and Newcastle… upon immediate viewing, this looked like it could be an extremely significant injury,” Waugh wrote.

Initial fears of another anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture — which had sidelined him for more than a year at Southampton in 2022 — have been dismissed following specialist assessments.

Still, the timing leaves Howe short of options at full-back. Kieran Trippier, 35, cannot be expected to play every match, while Lewis Hall is still regaining sharpness after a broken foot. Emil Krafth has also been managing fitness issues, potentially forcing rotation or makeshift solutions in the coming weeks.
